News

Welcome to Yorkshire Bach Choir’s updated website.

This now incorporates full details of the choir’s 31st Season which promises to be another exciting year. YBC begins with a concert of Music for the Chapels Royal in which YBS leader, Lucy Russell can be heard as a solo exponent of the baroque violin. For Handel’s Messiah we are fortunate to welcome once again Emma Kirkby, Sally Bruce-Payne and Joshua Ellicott, and to introduce the bass, Stephan Loges (see below). The February concert will include Allegri’s Miserere, and just before Easter YBC will perform Bach’s St Matthew Passion. In May, A Music Strange is an examination of English spiritual music. The season will conclude with a concert of The Spectacular Italian Baroque, which will, of course, include the Vivaldi Gloria together with Handel’s Dixit Dominus. Further details are available using the links under Concerts 2009-10.

For single and subscription ticket prices and booking methods, see our booking information. page.

Change to the soloists for Messiah

We were to have introduced the baritone Derek Welton to YBC on 19 December for Handel's Messiah. Derek will be appearing in Jonathan Dove's The Enchanted Pig for an extended tour  beginning at The Royal Opera House. We wish him well. We are delighted to announce that he will be replaced by the Dresden born baritone Stephan Loges who was the winner of the 1999 Wigmore Hall International Song Competition. Stephan has received much praise in the press for his recitals, oratorio, as well as opera, and we look forward to his first appearance with YBC.

Friends of Yorkshire Bach Choir

In our Annual News letter we proposed a scheme to invite patrons to join our Friends scheme and many people have already done so. As a Friend of Yorkshire Bach Choir, you will, unless you prefer not to, receive an acknowledgement on our website and in our programmes. You will also be entitled to a programme at each concert, although if you are also a subscriber you will get this anyway. Most of all, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping Yorkshire Bach Choir to continue to provide concerts of the highest possible standard.

Please help us, if you can, by becoming a Friend of Yorkshire Bach Choir. Simply download and complete the Friends form and return this with a cheque with your donation (we suggest a minimum of £10) to become a Friend for one year. Alternatively, you may pay your Friend of Yorkshire Bach Choir donation by Bank Standing Order on an annual or monthly basis, and a form is included to enable you to give instructions to your bank. If you are a UK taxpayer and return a Gift Aid form, then every £10 you contribute will be increased to £12.80 by HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs). Please download and complete the taxpayer declaration on the Gift Aid form so that we can obtain a tax refund from HMRC. The form should be sent to the Ticket Secretary at the address stated.
