New Recording

YBC has completed three days of recording of Bach B minor Mass with Yorkshire Baroque Soloists.

This is a piece the choir has enjoyed singing on many occasions and which we have had a strong desire to record commercially for a long time. It has now been made possible by a very generous donation by Mrs Celia M Burgan. The final recording will be issued under the leading independent classical record label Signum Classics which is distributed internationally and in the United Kingdom by Harmonia Mundi. Unfortunately, the recording will not be released until February or March 2011.

The photgraphs above were taken during the recording in April at the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall, University of York.

Next Season

The 32nd Season has been planned as another feast of music with a mix of old favourites and two concerts which include substantial works performed by YBC for the first time. In December, our concert is included in the York Early Music Festival and is YBC’s first performance of Handel’s most colourful oratorio, Saul which comprises almost 3 hours of music. (Please note this concert will begin at 7pm.) Other first performances by YBC follow in March, with works by two brothers. Joseph Haydn’s deeply expressive Stabat Mater, composed in 1767 for soloists, choir and orchestra, is a much neglected work. Michael Haydn’s Requiem, composed 4 years later, is a substantial and beautiful work which Mozart heard with his father in January 1772 and, it is said, this work influenced Mozart when composing his own Requiem. This work is also scored for soloists, choir and an orchestra which includes 4 trumpets. The season ends as it begins, with works by Bach: the Lutheran Mass in G and Bach cantatas.
