Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Updated 29 March 2020

Message from Yorkshire Bach Choir

With much regret we have made the decision to cancel the remainder of our 41st Concert Season (2019/20).  This decision is in response to the ongoing situation around Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the risk that continuing to perform would pose to the health of our audiences, choir members and performers.

The cancelled performances (due to take place at St Michael le Belfrey, York) are as follows:

  • Saturday 16 May - Song of Songs

  • Saturday 20 June - Handel, Purcell & Blow

This is a precarious time for professional musicians, who are facing months of cancelled work. We have decided to honour (in full) the performing fees of the members of Yorkshire Baroque Soloists who were due to play at our concert in June. If you are in a position to do so we are asking our supporters if they might be prepared to donate the value of any tickets purchased to the Yorkshire Bach Choir charity. This would not only help us support musicians but also offset cancellation fees and other financial commitments that we have for the remainder of the current concert series.

YBC Tickets (in partnership with our ticket agent NCEM) will be contacting those who have individual tickets or season tickets in the next few weeks.

For us, along with many other performing organisations and musicians, this is a time of challenge, but we remain optimistic about making music in the future.  We would like to thank our audiences and supporters for their continued and invaluable support. We are still actively planning for our next concert season for 2020/21 and we hope to confirm details of this by early September.

We look forward to seeing you again for our next season and hope that you remain safe and well in the coming months. More than ever we are reliant on the generosity of our friends and the enthusiasm of our audiences.
